Etchings

Meg was a printmaker by trade and found out about the process of adding Japanese thin papers to the surface of her printing plate when she would travel to Denver to print her etchings. Once she understood the process, she found someone in Vail who was making her own paper and that friend taught Meg how to make her own paper. Meg eventually used these techniques on her etchings as well as in her collage paintings.

Meg’s Solar Etchings were created using a steel backed polymer printing plate. This etching plate can be made from acetate so that it can be printed through a large printer, scratched into like a regular printing plate or painted on the surface. The most important aspect of solar etchings is that they do not use harsh chemicals like most etching plates use to “bite” away the surface. They use UV light or sunlight to expose the image and then ink the palate and put it through the etching press.
